Other Concerns of Aging

Anxiety

Anxiety is an emotion often experienced by the elderly. Research suggests that the elderly are highly responsive to treatment for anxiety disorders.

Depression

Reviewing and reflecting on life experiences has been shown to be particularly effective when dealing with depression.

Complexity

Mike is aware that the issues concerning the elderly can be particularly complex. After all, the real life issues of change, loss and abandonment are often part of everyday life for this population – not to mention the confrontation with death.

Counselling and Dementia

Mike is currently very interested in developing his practice with senior citizens. Common issues often involve loneliness and relationships but he is also interested in the confusion between dementia and depression. There is disabled access but he is also prepared to visit clients in their own home.

He has recently completed short courses on:

“Dementia Care: Staying Connected and Living Well” from Newcastle University.

“The Many Faces of Dementia” from University College London.

“Dementia: Understanding and Managing Challenging Behaviour” from University of Birmingham.

"End-of-Life Care for People with Dementia" from  University of East Anglia
